Summer is here and so far the Dutch Summer has had a great start. Where normally the weather is droopy and rainy, this summer the Sun is making itself known to the people of the tiny country of the Netherlands. As soon as the Sun starts shining I get this need to wear denim, and not just denim but that retro light-wash denim from my childhood. That is why this week I decided to do a 90’s denim fashion look. So step into my time machine, back to when NSYNC made our hearts throb, the Olsen Twins made the house full, and to when TLC were the style icons of the 90’s.
Aloha Bar Rotterdam
This entire time warp adventure played out in the Aloha Bar in the city of Rotterdam. Going to Aloha Bar was like stepping into the Miami of the 90’s. The owners turned an old run-down swimming paradise into a modern bar-restaurant completely hip with Acapulco lounge chairs, a mint green caravan and a view overlooking the water. To modernise the concept, Aloha decided to go all green and waste nothing in a collaborative project called The Blue City 010. They even have a bee hotel to stimulate the honey creation. It’s the perfect mix of retro and modern. Plus, they have great food!
If you read my Return of the dungarees post, you know that my childhood in the Caribbean was spent in denim school uniforms. I guess subconsciously, I associate sunny weather with denim clothing. That is why, when my friend invited me to Aloha bar last weekend, the extremely sunny weather inspired a full-on denim look. Since I had bought a pair of trendy tinted glasses at Monki just the day before, it was the perfect opportunity to combine my 90’s nostalgia with the sunny weather. Result: a retro 90’s denim fashion bonanza.
Ok, loves! that’s it for today. I’m off to enjoy the sunny weather. Let me know your fav denim pieces down below in the comments!
